What Makes an E-Bike Different From a Moped or Scooter?
6th Oct 2021
Anyone who’s heard of personal electric-powered vehicles most likely knows about the three popular types of PEV: the E-bike, moped, and scooter. These three vehicles are currently the most popular versions of PEVs in the world, though there are other options. But many people don’t really know the difference between these three options, making it hard to choose. So, what makes an E-bike different from a moped or scooter?
Moped
We’ll start with the moped. This vehicle is usually two-wheeled, though it can have three. People liken a moped to a weaker motorcycle or motorbike, as they effectively function the same. The major difference is that mopeds can only have two or less horsepower and travel at 30 MPH. They often require licenses and registration if you want one for yourself, though the requirements may change depending on local laws.
Scooter
The term “scooter” can refer to several separate vehicles: an electric vehicle the same as a moped, an electric kickstand scooter, or a mobility scooter. There’s no major difference between a moped and a scooter other than that scooters are electric. An electric kickstand scooter is similar to a regular kickstand scooter except with a motor and battery. The last type of scooter is the mobility scooter; people design this scooter with people who have limited mobility in mind, so the scooter can help them get around.
E-Bike
An E-bike is extremely different from both a moped and a scooter. The E-bike is just an electric version of a regular bicycle, with pedals and everything. These bikes aren’t that different from regular bikes, and even when they run out of charge, you can still use them as regular bikes. Most places treat them as regular bikes with a few restrictions on them. There’s typically no need for a license or registration for an E-bike.
This is what makes an E-bike different from a moped or scooter, though all three of these vehicles are great for personal use. If you’re ever in the market for electric scooters for adults for sale, you can always call upon us at SmartWheel Canada for your PEV needs.
